Read about the IFMGA International Ski Mountain Guide Race in Verbier, Switzerland

21 - 24 April 2022 in Verbier

4 days, 3 nights, 2 competitions, 1 training course

On Thursday, 7 mountain guides will meet for the international FK. First aid as well as the use of the avalanche beacon are the topics to be covered. A sunny day with a lot of refreshed knowledge ends in the center of Verbier with a fine dinner.

Friday, 22.4.: Meeting point Médran valley station with ski equipment. Together we take the cable car up to Mont Fort. We enjoy the sun, the view and the first beer or wine. After the subsequent tour of the race slope, the mogul slope is tested... and again, because it's so much fun. After a lunch stop at the CAS Cabane du Mont Fort, we tackle the valley descent in deep powder snow. Our next meeting point was the start number distribution and information event for the competition day.

Saturday, 23.4: Let's go, the race fever is slowly rising. After a wait at the valley station, we take the gondola back up to the start .... then inspection of the giant slalom ... then waiting for the timing to work ... sun - clouds - wind - sun - fog ...and start: first the Ü60, then the female racers, then U60. The run is short but OHO. On the planned 2nd run is renounced, because the time threatened to run away. At the finish area, a large aperitif buffet awaited the group of mountain guides and their supporters.

Until then at 13.00h the start of the ascent race was taken under the feet of 37 participants. 400 meters of altitude to overcome, some are so fast that you have to hurry to watch.

The dinner with subsequent victory celebration is reserved for us in les Moulins. Fondue and Raclette, mmmhhh, we enjoy the Valais specialties, framed by live music, with full trains. The reading of the rankings went quickly, so that the winners and all racers still find enough time to celebrate ... until sometime.

And again it's time to go home: to Italy, to France, to the USA, to South Tyrol, to Austria, to Central Switzerland, to Western or Eastern Switzerland...

Au revoir e à bientôt, merci beaucoup Verbier pour l'organization.
